Division technology of the data transmission band solution CWDM (Coarse Wavelength-Division Multiplexing) involves using a multiplexer (MUX) to combine the wavelengths to be carried by more fibers into one that has a de multiplexer (Demux),  at the receiving end of the link, which separates the wavelengths and leads them to different fibers, each ending in separate receivers.

 

Efforts to development and to standardize CWDM systems come in a critical moment in communications for metro-access providers. The need for cheap transportation systems is imperative, so the demand for high bandwidth network is pushed to the limits. Using CWDM, can be added between 2 and 8 wavelengths on the same pair of fiber thus increasing the carrying capacity with minimal investment

The most used CWDM systems are made to operate on eight different wavelengths 1470-1610nm range, but there are MUX / Demux equipments with up to 16 channels in 1290-1610nm range, which, like the previous, are partitioned standard 20nm. The size of these channels avoid wavelength losses and maintain an adjacent gap to that insulation adjacent bands. It was found that certain areas are to be avoided in these intervals, the bands around 1270nm and 1400nm with significant attenuation caused by sensitivity to residual water present in the majority of installed fiber channel and preferential bands due to incompatibility with modules such as the usual optical of 1300nm or 1500 nm. To the extent that these additional losses are controlled over long distances, CWDM overall system performance will be highest.

-          MUX/DEMUX type equipment can be installed in terminal boxes or ODF with corresponding output ports for channels. The systems installed outdoors, could be sheltered in junction boxes type Enclosure.

-         The connectors used with this devices are duplex LC/UPC and LC/APC( CATV ports). Also are recommended duplex patc cords between the passive drive and the optical module to eliminate interconnecting errors for the corresponding ends.
